Popular entertainer Tarrus Riley has topped the Billboard Reggae Album chart just a few days after his latest album release. The name of the album Love Situation went to number one on iTunes in just a couple days.
The singer has expressed how delighted he is to be in the number one spot once again, in a statement made by the singer, he said “he felt good to know that the reggae music industry is still alive and is being supported all over the world, it’s not only about him but the world at large”, an album that was released by Juke Boxx, Cannon Productions and distributed by Zojak.
Along with Tarrus Riley, Bob Marley and The Wailers, Ziggy Marley and Papa San are the only artistes who have made it on the Billboard Reggae Album Chart thus far. But more reggae artistes are leaning towards this goal of releasing albums. Riley has stated that there are many reasons why more Jamaican artistes are not noticeable internationally and one is that some of them aren’t getting the chance to promote themselves fully.
Reggae music has been a part of the Jamaican culture for decades, with the late Bob Marley being the foundation of reggae music, many young artiste are gravitating to this genre of music, as it has always been touted as clean relaxing lyrics, one that our younger generations can listen to and learn from.
Bob Marley is said to have claimed that the word reggae came from a Spanish term for “the king’s music”. The liner notes of To the King, a compilation of Christian gospel reggae, suggest that the word reggae was derived from the Latin regi meaning “to the king”. The Rastafarian movement was a significant influence on reggae and in recent times non-rastafarian artistes are doing this kind of music. So, continue to shine Tarrus Riley Jamaica and the rest of the world is looking forward to more albums.
